Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) launches Umpires Academy in Ahmedabad

Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) on Monday launched a first of its kind - Umpires Academy in Ahmedabad, India to train budding umpires who want to make a career in Umpiring.

Gujarat, which is mostly the first in launching various initiatives, this Umpiring Academy also happens to be first of its kind in India. Launched by GCA Vice President Mr. Parimal Nathwani, the  Umpiring Academy will be headed by – Gujarat’s First ICC International Umpire – Mr. Amish Saheba who will be the Director at the Academy.

The main motive of this academy is to bring out more Amish Saheba’s from the state of Gujarat & I think this a great initiative.

One can apply for the umpires academy either by filling the form online at their website or by filling the Umpires Academy form at Gujarat Cricket Association Office, 2ND Floor, Akshar Arcade, Opp. Memnagar Fire station, Memnagar, Ahmedabad.between 12.00 to 8.00 HRS. PHONE NO.079 26443787.

I had a look at their website & the content is great & has all the information needed.I also has a PDF file about the Laws of Cricket Code which can be downloaded from here – ICC Laws of Cricket Code  PDF

GCA Umpires Academy also has its official Youtube Channel – where you wan watch the latest videos about umpiring.

This definitely is a great initiative by Gujarat Cricket Association under the leadership of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

However, it feels a bit surprising that despite all this & how active Mr. Narendra Modi is on the social media, the fact remains that Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) doesn’t have their Official Website. Most of all the Cricket associations in India, affiliated with the BCCI have their own official websites.

I hope the people at GCA are listening & act upon it.

Despite all this, I would like to tell that I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Amish Saheba when I used to play cricket for the Gujarat State U-16,U-19 Team & had even attended his umpires training session in Bharuch which was organised by Bharuch District Cricket Association (BDCA). He is an excellent umpire & a nice human being.

All The Best Sir for this great initiative & hope to see many more International Umpires coming out of Gujarat.
